OHIP-Funded CPT for PTSD

What we change inwardly will change our reality.

-Plutarch

In Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) group counselling, you will learn how to cognitively restructure how you relate to yourself, others and the world in general.  While trauma can seem like a historical fact, our memories of the trauma contains many perspectives and opinions that influence how we relate to the trauma.  In fact, research has shown that while virtually everyone experiences post-traumatic symptoms after exposure to a trauma, only 10% go on to develop PTSD.  That is, 90% seem to integrate what happened in their subconscious autobiography so that they can move forward in a manner that honours their values (Resick et al., 2017).  Research has shown that every time someone recalls a memory, it’s a chance to change it (Hardt et al., 2013).  The goal of this training is to teach you how to process your memories and experiences to facilitate the process of seeing you move ahead towards your desired future.
