OHIP-Funded CBT 101: Fundamentals
A turtle once asked two fish “how’s the water over there?”
The fish responded “what’s water?”
In CBT 101: Fundamentals group counselling, you will learn the fundamental building blocks of the CBT model. You will learn to:
- break down situations in terms of emotions, thoughts and behaviours
- identify core beliefs and their influence they have over our attitudes and internal rules
- identify habitual coping strategies we use and consider the development of more adaptive ones
The goal of these sessions is to develop an awareness of our factors within our purview that influence our experience of situations we face in life. Approaches in reprogramming our habitual reactions to ones that are more empowering will be the topics of CBT 201: Behavioural Approach and CBT 301: Cognitive Approach. Cognitive behavioural therapy is a validated form of psychotherapy using behavourial conditioning, cognitive restructuring to effectively treat depression & anxiety in addition to dozens of other conditions. Research has shown that benefits of CBT are often more lasting than the benefits provided by pharmacotherapy.
