OHIP-Funded Progressive Muscle Relaxation Training

Your ability to generate power is directly proportional to your ability to relax.

-David Allen

Relaxation is not simply just the absence of stress; it is a skill.

In these sessions, we will help patients train the relaxation skill known as Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR).  It is one of the most studied and structured relaxation skills (of the six relaxation family groups); it is also one of the easiest to learn.  PMR is an evidence-based intervention for many conditions such as of headache disorders.

Most patients are pleasantly surprised at how much of a difference this makes to their lives and it’s not uncommon for them to describe the acquisition of this skill as a “game-changer”.  Although the methodology focuses on tense-and-release cycles of muscles in your body, it is not about your muscles.  It is about using this methodology as a fly-wheel to training relaxation at the central nervous system level (i.e., at the brain level) and then generalizing it to all aspects of your life.

Duration: 8 weeks. 45-minute sessions/per week online over OTN

Counseling facilitator:  Dr. Taher Chugh

Please note:
While we endeavor to limit the session to the allotted time, at times, the sessions go overtime because of discussion and questions. Please keep this in mind when scheduling group counseling appointments. We recommend that you do not book anything else for 30 minutes after each group session.
