Our testers administer a series of neurocognitive assessments designed to assess your performance in the cognitive domains typically impacted after a concussion. Essentially a concussion will typically result in a very diffuse and mild impairment to cognitive functioning, which means that we will assess attention, working memory, executive functioning, and processing speed.
More generally, this assessment involves the use of a computer, and your focus for a prolonged period of time, which means that while it is typically beneficial to undergo cognitive assessment, it will be recommended by a MD, when we feel that you are ready to engage in this step of the program. We just want to ensure that we are not causing undue symptom exacerbation for those of you might be struggling to read this article right now because it’s on a screen. Additionally, not everyone will require cognitive assessment or rehabilitation.
If the assessment identifies areas of dysfunction, the next step will be to have you begin some type of cognitive rehabilitation, either compensation or remediation depending on your needs, unique profile of symptoms, and the expert opinion of our team.
